Canopy Medical Clinic is a radically inclusive sexual and mental health clinic based in Fargo, North Dakota. Our mission is to reduce health disparities and provide affirming care to individuals of all backgrounds throughout the region.

Peer Support Services for People Living with HIV

In collaboration with the North Dakota Ryan White Program, Canopy launched the first Peer Navigation program in the state for individuals living with HIV.

  • One-on-one emotional and practical support

  • Group support meetings (virtual and in-person)

  • All services provided by trained Peer Navigators with lived experience of HIV

Mental Health Services

  • Free individual therapy for Ryan White clients

  • Medication management for anxiety, depression, ADHD, and more

  • LGBTQ+ affirming, sex-positive, and kink-friendly clinicians

​

HIV/STI/Hep C

  • Free/low cost testing for HIV, Hepatitis C and STIs

  • Hep C and STI treatment

  • Confidential, judgement-free care

Shine Bright & Live’s partnership with Canopy Medical Clinic is rooted in long-standing collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to improving HIV care and reducing stigma in North Dakota. This work began before Shine Bright & Live was formally established, when community leaders and Canopy worked together to help develop North Dakota’s HIV Peer Navigation program—ensuring people newly diagnosed with HIV had support, guidance, and connection to care from peers with lived experience.

As Shine Bright & Live grew, the partnership with Canopy expanded to include statewide advocacy efforts to modernize North Dakota’s HIV laws. Together, Shine Bright & Live and Canopy played a key role in advancing reforms that aligned state law with current science and public health best practices. These efforts helped make North Dakota the fourth state in the nation to fully modernize its HIV laws, significantly reducing stigma and removing outdated policies that harmed people living with HIV.

Today, this partnership continues to evolve. Shine Bright & Live and Canopy Medical Clinic are working together to launch an in-person HIV support group in Bismarck in 2026, creating space for connection, peer support, and community care. This collaboration reflects a shared belief that effective HIV response goes beyond medical treatment—it requires compassion, community, and systems that center people’s real experiences."
